As the first full week of the 2026 MLB season rolls on, some of the weekend’s most intriguing series are already starting to take shape. With SeatGeek serving as the Official Ticket Marketplace of MLB, fans have plenty of chances to catch the action live.

One of the top matchups on the schedule this weekend is the Atlanta Braves facing the Arizona Diamondbacks, a four-game set between two National League teams hoping to build early momentum. In this series, we’ll be looking at whether Atlanta’s excellent early pitching can keep rolling, how Corbin Carroll is once again powering Arizona’s attack and more.

Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks series preview

The Braves are off to a hot 4-2 start as they look to prove 2025 was a bit of a fluke after losing 86 games, while Arizona is 3-3 as the Diamondbacks try to return to the playoffs for the first time since their 2023 World Series run. These two National League foes kick off a four-game set Thursday night.

Atlanta took two of three from both the Royals and A’s to kick off 2026, with reigning NL Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin picking up where he left off with three home runs out of the gate. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks enter Thursday on a three-game win streak after rebounding from being swept by the Dodgers to sweeping the Tigers, including a 1-0 win with Tarik Skubal on the mound for Detroit.

Here are the local game times for the series, along with notable special events at Chase Field during this weekend.

Thursday, April 2: 6:40 p.m. Friday, April 3: 6:45 p.m. (fireworks night) Saturday, April 4: 4:15 p.m. (All-American Rejects postgame concert) Sunday, April 5: 1:10 p.m.

Diamondbacks: Corbin Carroll picks up where he left off

The National League is crowded with superstars from Shohei Ohtani to Ronald Acuna Jr. to Fernando Tatis Jr. to Bryce Harper. This at times results in one of the game’s brightest young stars often getting lost in the shuffle in Arizona’s Corbin Carroll.

Carroll has done nothing but produce since debuting in 2021, and he put together a career year in 2025 with 31 home runs, 84 RBIs, 17 triples and 32 stolen bases. He’s already swatted one home run and picked up a three-bagger, and an early OPS of .944 is nothing to scoff at.

It’ll be tough for Arizona to return to the postseason, especially in a crowded NL West, but Carroll staying healthy and doing what he does would certainly be a big boost for the Diamondbacks’ playoff hopes.

Braves: Pitching like it’s 2024

A lot went wrong in Atlanta last year, with the Braves battling injuries to their biggest stars all year long. Not only did they miss the postseason, they finished under .500 after entering the year on the shortlist of teams viewed as a viable threat to the Dodgers’ World Series aspirations.

The Braves didn’t win it all in 2024, but they were arguably baseball’s best pitching team, tying Seattle for the best team ERA in MLB at 3.49 with Chris Sale picking up his first Cy Young Award.

Yes, it’s very early, but the Braves are off to an excellent start to 2026 in the pitching department with a lowly 2.00 ERA entering Thursday’s series versus Arizona, with Sale already 2-0 on the young season. We won’t see him in this series, but there’s plenty of intrigue with the rest of the rotation as it makes its second turn.

Top pitching matchup: Bryce Elder vs. Michael Soroka (Saturday)

Elder burst onto the scene in 2022 and 2023, posting a 3.17 ERA as a rookie in ‘22 and earning All-Star honors in ‘23. Injuries and inconsistency limited him to 38 starts across the last two seasons with a 5.59 ERA, but he’s off to a great start to 2026 after spinning six scoreless innings with five strikeouts against the Athletics in his season debut.

Elder faces a former Braves standout in Soroka, who, like Elder, had an excellent start to his career before injuries derailed him. He’s on his fifth team since 2023, but Soroka made a nice first impression with his new club, striking out 10 Tigers in just five innings of work, including an “immaculate inning” with three strikeouts on just nine total pitches.
