About MLS Playoffs Tickets
Unlike most major international soccer leagues, the MLS crowns its champion based on the results of a post-season. The MLS Cup Playoffs include 14 of the league’s 24 teams, seven each from the Eastern Conference and Western Conference. The top seeded team from each conference receives a bye into the Conference Semifinals. The remaining teams play single game elimination matches hosted by the higher seed and the winners advance to the conference semifinals without reseeding. The Conference Semifinals, Conference Finals and MLS Cup final itself are all single elimination matches as well. The MLS Cup Playoffs were first held in 1996, with D. C. United defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Cup final by a score of 3-2 after coming back from a two-goal deficit and scoring the winner in the golden goal overtime period. D. C. United went on to win two of the next three MLS Cup finals, losing to the Chicago Fire in the final match in 1998, marking the start of the MLS with a dominant run. Following D. C. United’s three-title run, the league continued expanding, and while the MLS Cup Playoffs consisted of eight teams until 2010, the league made the move to a ten-team playoff in 2011, which grew once again to twelve teams in 2015. While D. C. United was undoubtedly the top team in the league in its early stages, and won a subsequent MLS Cup final in 2004, the Los Angeles Galaxy has reigned victorious more than any other MLS team with five titles to its name. The price of MLS Playoff tickets can vary greatly, both by location and by round. Last season, MLS Playoffs tickets resold for as low as under $50 on average for early rounds of the playoffs, and about $300 on average for the MLS Cup Final.

How long are MLS Playoffs games?
Most MLS Playoffs matches include 90 minutes of play split into two 45‑minute halves, plus halftime and added stoppage time. In total, you can usually expect to spend about two hours at the stadium from kickoff to final whistle, not counting pre‑match arrivals or post‑match celebrations.
Do MLS Playoffs matches go to extra time or penalties?
Regular‑season MLS Playoffs matches typically end after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, even if the score is tied. Certain knockout competitions, such as MLS Cup Playoffs or domestic cups, may use extra time and penalty shootouts if needed to decide a winner, depending on the specific competition rules.
How many MLS Playoffs home matches are there each MLS season?
In a standard MLS regular season, MLS Playoffs will play 17 home matches along with another 17 on the road.
Do MLS Playoffs play in other competitions outside of MLS?
Yes, many MLS clubs, including MLS Playoffs, also compete in other tournaments beyond MLS play. Depending on qualification and country, that can include international competitions like the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Leagues Cup, as well as domestic cups such as the U.S. Open Cup or Canadian Championship.
When these fixtures are scheduled, you’ll typically find tickets listed alongside regular MLS matches on the MLS Playoffs page on SeatGeek.
How early should I arrive before MLS Playoffs matches?
It’s a good idea to arrive at least 45–60 minutes before MLS Playoffs matches so you have time to get through security, find your seats, and enjoy pre‑match warm‑ups. For high‑demand games, like rivalry matches or special events, aiming for 60–90 minutes early can help you avoid longer lines at the gates, concessions and restrooms.
