Born on July 15, 1976, in San Diego, California, Iglesias was raised by his single mother in various cities across Southern California, eventually settling in Long Beach. In 1997, he made the bold decision to leave his job at a cell phone company to pursue comedy full-time, a choice that led to significant financial hardships, including eviction and the loss of his car. Despite these challenges, Iglesias's perseverance paid off as he began performing in small venues, gradually building a dedicated fan base.
Iglesias's career gained momentum in the early 2000s with appearances on television shows such as Nickelodeon's All That and NBC's Last Comic Standing. Although he was disqualified from the latter for violating communication rules, the exposure significantly boosted his profile. He gained widespread acclaim with his Comedy Central specials Hot and Fluffy (2007) and I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy (2009), which showcased his unique blend of observational comedy and character voices. These specials solidified his status as a prominent figure in the stand-up comedy scene.
Beyond stand-up, Iglesias has made notable contributions to film and television. He voiced characters in animated films like Coco, Ferdinand and Space Jam: A New Legacy, where he played Speedy Gonzales. In 2019, he starred in the Netflix sitcom Mr. Iglesias, portraying a high school teacher dedicated to helping underperforming students. The show ran for two seasons and was well-received for its heartwarming and humorous portrayal of the educational system.
A significant milestone in Iglesias's career occurred in 2022 when he became the first comedian to sell out Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The performance was recorded and released on Netflix as Stadium Fluffy, further cementing his legacy in the comedy world.
