About Waterparks Tickets
Waterparks got their start in Houston, Texas in 2011 when vocalist/guitarist Awsten Knight teamed up with Gage Matthieu, drummer Owen Marvin, and guitarist Tommy Denley. After lineup changes in 2012āincluding the departures of Matthieu and Marvināthe core trio of Knight, guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood solidified. They independently released the EPs Airplane Conversations (2012) and Black Light (2014), building grassroots momentum in the local scene, often playing DIY venues and self-booking shows to hustle their way forward.
Their major breakthrough came in 2015 when they signed with Equal Vision Records and were taken under the wing of Good Charlotteās Benji and Joel Madden. In 2016 they released their first label-backed EP Cluster, co-produced by Benji Madden with My Chemical Romanceās Mikey Way on bass. Shortly after, they released their debut album Double Dare (Nov 2016), featuring singles like āStupid for You,ā āHawaii (Stay Awake)ā and āRoyal,ā which earned them a place on alternative radio and led to their first headlining tour and multiple support slots for bands like Sleeping with Sirens and All Time Low.
Waterparks continued to expand their sound and fanbase: their second album, Entertainment (2018), solidified their melodic pop-rock direction; their third album, Fandom (2019), offered sharp commentary on fan culture and heartache and drew critical praise across Kerrang! and Alternative Press; Greatest Hits (2021), their fourth, debuted during pandemic-era live-show limitations but received high acclaim for its genre-hopping ambition; and their fifth studio album Intellectual Property (April 2023), released via Fueled by Ramen, further pushed into hyper-pop and electronica, landing on many topāalbum lists of the year.
Fans on Reddit frequently reminisce about discovering Waterparks opening for larger acts like All Time Low or via the song āCraveā on Spotify playlistsāleading many to attend their early shows, grow into dedicated fans, and cite the bandās live energy and personal warmth as pivotal. The band's reputation for highāenergy concerts and direct fan engagement has cemented them as one of popāpunkās most dynamic modern acts.
