Born on April 23, 1977, in Erdington, England, Oliver began his career in the UK, making his first on-screen appearance at the age of six in the BBC drama Bleak House. He later performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and worked on various British television and radio programs, including The State We're In and The Department. In 2006, Oliver moved to the United States, where he joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a correspondent and occasional fill-in host, gaining recognition for his sharp political satire.
In 2014, Oliver launched Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO, a weekly late-night talk show that offers in-depth commentary on current events and issues.
