USMNT vs. Australia ticket demand soars after USA’s opening World Cup win over Paraguay

Jun 17, 2026

When the U.S. Men's National Team beat Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium last Friday, it was a major statement. The vibes are back, their form looked much better than expected and a fan base that has waited more than three decades for a men’s World Cup moment on home soil finally has one.

Now comes the test that decides everything: USMNT vs. Australia, this Friday, June 19, at Lumen Field in Seattle. Both teams come in with a win and three points apiece. Australia delivered an upset in its first match, knocking off Turkey 2-0 the night after USA's victory.

If USMNT can win Friday’s match, then it puts itself in prime position to win Group D and avoid a much tougher early knockout path. Lose it, and a brutal draw becomes a lot more realistic, including the possibility of running into a heavyweight such as Argentina as early as the Round of 16.

For fans, players and the resale market, this is the USMNT match of the group stage.

USMNT-Australia World Cup ticket demand has nearly doubled in less than a week

Once this match’s importance became more clear, SeatGeek's secondary market reacted almost overnight. The difference between before USMNT’s monster win and now are jaw-dropping:

  • The average ticket price climbed from $1,568 on June 10 to $2,857 on June 17 — an 82% jump in less than a week.

  • The median ticket (right in the middle of all the seats sold) went from $1,381 to $2,422.

  • The cheapest seat available went from about $1,037 to nearly $1,952.

The shift in fan interest is just as dramatic. The number of daily visits to the match's SeatGeek page went from about 9,000 on June 10 to over 31,000 on June 13, the day after USMNT’s victory on Friday night. That's nearly 3.5 times the traffic in three days flat.

From Paraguay to Australia, USMNT fan interest for World Cup leveled up

Less than a week ago, the SoFi Stadium opener against Paraguay drew strong interest from the USMNT fanbase. But now compare what fans paid then vs. what they're paying now, and the gap is striking:

Metric

USA vs. Paraguay (June 12)

USA vs. Australia (as of June 17)

Average ticket price

$1,588

$2,857

Median ticket price

$1,409

$2,422

Cheapest seat sold that day

$978

$1,988

USMNT vs. Australia tickets are clearing at roughly 1.8× the price of the Paraguay opener, and it's still not match day. The volume tells the same story: USA vs. Australia has already moved nearly the same number of orders as USA vs. Paraguay's entire cycle.

Is USMNT-Australia the hottest match of the World Cup by ticket demand?

Close, but not quite. That title still belongs to the Mexico vs. South Africa tournament opener at Estadio Banorte on June 11. Tickets to opening night in Mexico City averaged a staggering $3,586 each across the full sales cycle, with the day-of average climbing past $4,600. Given that it was El Tri at a historic venue paired with the opening World Cup ceremony, it was a once-in-a-lifetime cultural moment where prices had been elevated for months.

But USA vs. Australia is still right there in the conversation for the most in-demand ticket so far. Here's the top five most in-demand tickets of the 2026 World Cup group stage:

Rank

Match

Avg secondary ticket price

1

Mexico vs. South Africa

$3,586

2

USA vs. Australia

$2,857

3

Mexico vs. South Korea

$2,812

4

Brazil vs. Morocco

$1,717

5

USA vs. Paraguay

$1,498

Four of the five hottest matches of the entire tournament belong to just two countries: Mexico and the USMNT. We already knew how passionate El Tri’s fanbase was, but USMNT’s is showing up in full force now as well. And the demand will only increase if USMNT continues to impress on the pitch.
