NCAA tournament 2022: Bracket Results and Analysis

It’s all happening: The bracket revealed the 68-team NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament field and fans are starting to fill out their brackets. First round games begin March 17-18 with the second round following March 19-20. As a first timer filling out my bracket, I’m rooting for Villanova (who I chose solely as a Philadelphia native). I’d love to know your overall pick, but before we get into the excitement of brackets, let’s take a look at Sunday results, analysis, and the overall NCAA tournament bracket.

Bracket Results and Analysis

Let’s start off with the No. 1 seeds. In the West Regional, Gonzaga is the No. 1 overall seed for the second straight year. While the team is a tournament favorite, they’ll possibly have to face Duke in the Round of 8 — a fierce, but exciting matchup. In the South Regional, Arizona sits in the No. 1 seed, making their first tournament appearance since 2018. In the Midwest Regional, Kansas is named the No. 1 seed for the 15th time. And lastly, the reigning champions, Baylor sits in the No. 1 seed in the East Regional. It won’t be a surprise to see a first-round upset from a No. 1 seed. In the past 13 years, all four of the 2022 No. 1 seeds have only made it out of the first round once.

For conferences, The Big Ten has the most teams participating in the tournament with a total of nine. The Big East, Big 12, and SEC all have six teams each participating from their conferences. The ACC has five teams, the Mountain West has four, WCC and Pac-12 have three. The American and A10 have two teams. The rest of the conferences have one team from each conference.
