Welcome to SeatGeek Front Row, where SeatGeek employees share their best tips for getting the most out of live events. For this edition, lead data analyst Mel Caneja walks you through exactly how to experience aBoston Bruins game at TD Garden like a Boston local, with insights ranging from where to sit to grabbing the perfect bite.

Right in the heart of Boston sits the home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics: TD Garden, or as locals simply call it, The Garden. (Sorry, New York, we’ve got one too.) If you’re from Massachusetts, it’s almost impossible not to be a Boston sports fan. We are, after all, Titletown, and TD Garden proudly shows it off with six Stanley Cup banners and 18 NBA championship banners hanging overhead.

As a big hockey fan, I make it a point to catch at least one or two Bruins games a season. This year’s second outing brought me to the Predators vs. Bruins matchup on January 27, and like every trip to TD Garden, it did not disappoint.

How to get to TD Garden

One of the best things about TD Garden is how easy it is to get to. The arena sits directly on top of North Station, making public transportation the move - and my personal favorite way to travel.

Both Boston’s Green Line and Orange Line stop at North Station and drop you off basically at the front door. Coming from Somerville, I hop on the Green Line and I’m there in about 15 minutes, no stress required.

If you’re traveling from north of the city, the commuter rail also runs straight into North Station, making it easy for suburban fans to skip the car altogether. That said, if driving is your thing, there’s a parking garage right under the arena, offering true door-to-door convenience.

What to do before going to a Bruins game

TD Garden sits in Boston’s West End, an area packed with pre-game energy and plenty of spots to grab food or drinks before puck drop. A few favorites:

  • Hub Hall: A go-to for affordable pre-game eats and drinks. This food hall features Boston-based vendors and two bars, and it’s only a couple doors down from TD Garden.

  • Banners Kitchen & Tap: Literally next to the arena, Banners is the pre-game hotspot. This two-story sports bar has massive TVs everywhere, so even if you’re running late, you won’t miss a thing.

  • Tavern in the Square: Right across from North Station, Tavern in the Square (or “TITS,” if you’re a local) brings classic sports bar energy. Bonus: it’s extremely allergy-friendly. As someone with celiac, this is a personal favorite—yes, even the fried food can be gluten-free.

  • Night Shift Brewing – Lovejoy Wharf: A Boston-based brewery serving house-made beers and seltzers. Known for their Detroit-style pizza, this flagship location also offers a gluten-free option.

  • Alcove: Looking for something a little more upscale? Alcove delivers with great food and creative cocktails. Their house-made Moscow Mules are absolutely worth the stop.

What to expect inside TD Garden

Once inside, the TD Garden concourse holds its own. Every level is lined with food and drink options - beer, seltzers, snacks, and full meals - so you’re never far from whatever you need. Many bars even have cocktail tables, making it easy to hang out before heading to your seat. My personal favorite place to eat on the concourse is the Garden Grill, located on level 4. With cider on draft and a gluten-free crispy chicken wrap, it is a gluten-free eater’s heaven!

And speaking of seats: there truly isn’t a bad one in the house. I’ve sat everywhere from the second row to the very top with my back against the wall, and every spot offers a great view of the action. If I had to pick, the loges are my favorite place to sit – close to the action and the padded seats are so comfy!

What fans are like at TD Garden during Bruins games

Boston is a sports town in every sense of the word. As a lifelong Bostonian, there’s nothing quite like being inside TD Garden during a Bruins game. The crowd stays loud, engaged, and hyped from puck drop to the final horn - when the Bruins score, the entire building erupts. When the Bruins win, the arena blasts “Dirty Water” - a true Boston anthem.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or attending your first event, TD Garden delivers an unforgettable game-day experience; and once you’ve been, it’s easy to see why fans keep coming back.

Quick insider tips for attending an event at TD Garden

If you’re heading to The Garden soon, keep these quick tips in mind to make the most of your night.

  • Arrive early: Doors typically open about an hour before game time, and it’s worth getting in early to soak up the energy, grab a drink and watch warmups, especially for hockey games.

  • Layer up: Even with a packed crowd, it is an ice rink. Bring a hoodie or light jacket so you’re comfortable once the puck drops.

  • Download your tickets ahead of time: TD Garden uses digital tickets, and cell service can get spotty with a sold-out crowd. Save your tickets to your phone wallet before arriving.

  • Eat (or drink) before you go in: There are great food options inside, but pre-gaming at nearby bars or Hub Hall will save you some money and add to the full game-day experience.

  • Any seat is a good seat: Seriously. Whether you’re up top or close to the glass, sightlines are excellent throughout the arena, so don’t stress too much about seat location.

  • Public transit is your best friend: Between traffic and post-game crowds, taking the T or commuter rail in and out of North Station is almost always the easiest move.

  • Stay for the full experience: Bruins fans bring the energy until the very end. Win or lose, the atmosphere inside TD Garden is something special—don’t rush out unless you have to.
