About San Francisco 49ers Playoff Tickets

The San Francisco 49ers claim one of the greatest runs in professional sports. From 1981 to 1995, the Niners won five Super Bowls. Think of the great NFL players of all time; chances are a handful are from the 80s-90s Niners.

San Francisco was foggy before the Niners hired Bill Walsh. After a 2-14 season, the Niners recruited Walsh, who had an astute eye for talent and was a proponent of the West Coast Offense. The West Coast Offense valued the slant and the run, favoring short passes to chip away the clock and wear down defenses.

Joe Montana was perfect for the system. Montana famously came back in the Cotton Bowl, in an ice storm, with the flu, to win for his Notre Dame team with a TD in the final play. Montana was deemed “the Comeback Kid.” And the Niners thirsted for such poise.

It was beautiful from the jump. In 1981, Montana’s second season, the Niners redeemed a decade of playoff losses to the Dallas Cowboys, coming back in the final four minutes to earn the right to compete in Super Bowl XVI versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Don’t let the score fool you, the Niners dominated the first half and coasted to their first ring, 26-21.

The Niners bulldozed the competition in 1984. After a 15-1 season, the Niners beat the New York Giants, 21-10, and shut out the Chicago Bears 23-0. Montana’s 49ers defeated Dan Marino’s Miami Dolphins 38-16. Marino is considered the greatest quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. Thank, or blame, San Francisco for that.

Could it get any better? Yes. In 1985, the Niners traded up to steal Jerry Rice from the Cowboys with the 16th overall pick. In 1986, Montana injured a spinal disk and was out for the season. In 1987 Walsh traded for young QB Steve Young, then a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

Montana, true to form, bounced back. After a rocky start, hovering around .500, the Niners united to run the table. Super Bowl XXIII met the Bengals again. The Bengals appeared perched for the win. Three minutes on the clock. Down 16-13. On their own 8-yard line against a prime defense. Montana delivered one of the best drives in Super Bowl history, winding the clock down across 92-yards. 20-16, Niners. Ring three.

Montana and Rice peaked in 1989. Rice collected 17 touchdowns in Montana’s MVP season. Lombardi number four came handily; San Francisco manhandled the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV, 55-10.

The Montana era ended with Young finally taking the reins and Montana being traded off to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 1994, Young capped the 49ers Golden Age with a never-out-of-question defeat of the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX, 49-26. The Niners, in a few short years, catapulted to the top of NFL postseason glory.

The dominance was not over. While the franchise did not achieve quite the same level of success, Colin Kaepernick’s Niners came very close in Super Bowl XLVII. Over the course of its history, the NFL team in San Francisco has established itself as a consistent playoff contender.

What makes San Francisco 49ers postseason games special for fans?

Buying San Francisco 49ers postseason tickets isn’t just about attending another game—it’s about experiencing something bigger. Here’s what makes postseason special compared to the regular season, and why it’s worth securing tickets early:

  • Higher stakes and intensity: Postseason 49ers games are when every action counts. The pressure is on, the matchups more meaningful, and the atmosphere electric. If you want to see critical plays, clutch moments, and possibly history being made, this is where it happens.

  • Scarcity and urgency: There are fewer postseason games, and demand shoots up fast. Premium seats fill up quickly. Buying tickets early means better choice in seating, avoiding inflated resale prices, and locking in your spot before the buzz drives them higher.

  • Exclusive perks and priority: Ticket holders often get extras that regular-season attendees don’t always get: priority access to purchase playoff tickets (especially if you’re a season-ticket or membership holder), exclusive merchandise, special events, themed game nights, or upgraded amenities (parking, entrance, etc.).

  • Memorable atmosphere and fan energy: The crowd is more invested, the media presence greater, and the tension more palpable. Postseason 49ers games tend to be more electric—fans are louder, anticipation is higher, and the emotional payoff is bigger.

  • Opportunity to witness defining moments: These are the San Francisco 49ers fans talk about for years. Comebacks, championships, career highlights—postseason is when legacies are built. If you want to be there for those moments, this is your chance.

  • Better value in some cases: Even though the tickets might cost more, when balanced against what you get (intensity, perks, memorable experience), many fans find postseason 49ers tickets fetch greater value per dollar compared to regular season games, especially when you consider resale value or experiential payoff.
