PWHL drawing more demand than Rangers for historic hockey doubleheader at Madison Square Garden

Women’s hockey has been breaking attendance records and stealing headlines. But an upcoming PWHL showdown on April 4 at Madison Square Garden feels different, and the ticket prices for this historic battle suggest that as well.

A historic first game for the PWHL at Madison Square Garden

The April 4 matchup between the Sirens and Torrent is officially the PWHL’s first-ever game at Madison Square Garden and the first time fans can attend a women’s professional hockey game at The Garden.

The New York Sirens will host the Seattle Torrent at 8 p.m. ET in what the league and MSG both describe as a milestone moment for women’s sports in New York City. The visiting Seattle Torrent bring marquee star power in the form of Hilary Knight, one of the most decorated women’s hockey players of all time. Knight’s résumé includes multiple Olympic medals with Team USA and a central role in the movement to build a sustainable, unified women’s pro league.

While the PWHL is making its MSG debut, women’s pro hockey has visited the building once before. In February 2021, the PWHPA’s Dream Gap Tour staged an exhibition game at MSG, but with no fans in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions.
