Initially involved in musical theater, McPoland shifted his focus to songwriting and performing. His breakthrough came in 2021 when an acoustic version of his song "Romeo and Juliet" went viral on TikTok, leading to a record deal with Columbia Records. He followed this success with singles such as "Shit Show," "Eloise," and "i can't sleep," which showcased his introspective and emotionally resonant songwriting.
In 2022, McPoland released his debut EP, Slow Down, which included tracks like "Dead Air," "News at 9," and "String Lights." The EP received critical acclaim for its blend of indie rock and folk influences. He also served as the opening act for Twenty One Pilots during their Icy Tour. In 2023, McPoland released his debut full-length album, Piggy, which drew inspiration from his parents' divorce and featured singles like "Digital Silence," "Blue," and "Turn off the Noise." The album's title references a character from Lord of the Flies, reflecting themes of isolation and emotional turmoil. Following the album's release, McPoland embarked on the Piggy Tour, further solidifying his presence in the indie music scene.
