The Cher Show is a musical based on none other than Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPiere Bono Allman. . . or “Cher” as most folks know her. Born in 1946, Cher quickly became known as the “Goddess of Pop” around the world. Of course, her rise to fame came with its fair share of ups and downs. Now, based on the musical book written by Rick Elice, The Cher Show chronicles Cher’s life – not just as a performer but as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend as well. While the real Cher doesn’t make an appearance in the show, she is involved in the production and even had a hand in writing The Cher Show. Cher is a force to be reckoned with and one woman was simply not enough for a role of this size – in fact, three different actors portray Cher at different stages of her life throughout the show. The three leading ladies have been dubbed The Babe, The Lady, and The Star. Cher has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and an Emmy Award, as well as several Golden Globe Awards. Just a Tony Award away from achieving EGOT status, Cher has enjoyed over six decades of superstardom. From “Believe” and “I Got You Babe” to “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Strong Enough,” The Cher Show highlights a wide variety of Cher’s greatest songs. Not only is The Cher Show filled with Cher’s many musical hits, audience members can expect to be further dazzled and delighted by a plethora of glitter, sequins, and sparkle. In fact, the wardrobe for the show was created by none other than famous fashion designer Bob Mackie. Mackie has worked with Cher throughout the years as her stylist and is actually portrayed in the show itself. The Cher Show opened with Tony Award nominee Stephanie Block as one of the leads, along with Teal Wicks and Micaela Diamond. Additional critically-acclaimed actors make up the rest of the cast, who portray characters such as Cher’s first husband Sonny Bono, her second husband Gregg Allman, and her mother, Georgia. Of the show, Cher has said “I am the most critical person who ever drew breath. . . If [the cast] can impress me, they’re doing good. ” The Cher Show began previews at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York on Nov. 1, 2018, with an official opening on Dec. 3, 2018. The Cher Show made its world premiere at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on June 12, 2018.
