In This Moment is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles in 2005 by vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth. The two met through a musician’s networking site and bonded over their shared vision for a heavy, theatrical sound. After rounding out the lineup with drummer Jeff Fabb and other members, they initially performed under the name Dying Star before adopting In This Moment. Their blend of metalcore, industrial and alternative metal quickly gained attention in the underground scene, leading to a record deal with Century Media Records.
The band’s debut album, Beautiful Tragedy (2007), introduced them to the broader metal world and was followed by The Dream (2008), which showed a more melodic, hard rock direction. However, it was their 2012 release, Blood, that became a breakthrough moment. With a darker, more industrial-influenced sound and powerful singles like “Blood” and “Whore,” the album went gold and solidified In This Moment as a major force in modern metal. Maria Brink’s commanding stage presence and the band’s elaborate live shows—complete with props, costumes and choreography—helped them stand out in a male-dominated genre.
Since then, In This Moment has continued to evolve both musically and visually. Albums like Black Widow (2014), Ritual(2017), and Mother (2020) have explored themes of empowerment, mysticism and feminine strength, further enhancing their cult-like following. The band has toured with acts like Korn, Shinedown and Rob Zombie, and regularly plays major rock festivals such as Welcome to Rockville and Aftershock. With Brink at the helm as both a fierce vocalist and creative visionary, In This Moment remains one of the most theatrical and innovative bands in the heavy music scene today.
