Over the past decade, The Weeknd has won multiple GRAMMY Awards and MTV Video Music Awards, and released numerous chart-topping albums. Despite having a relatively young professional career, The Weeknd has cemented himself as one of the greatest artists of all time. He’s collaborated with legendary artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Daft Punk, and many more. Here are some of The Weeknd’s top songs below:
With over three billion (yes, billion) streams on Spotify, “Blinding Lights” is by far The Weeknd’s most popular song. Since its release in 2019, “Blinding Lights” has quickly become the second-most streamed song of all time on the streaming service. The track has a strong 80s aesthetic, with punchy synth sounds throughout the song and an upbeat electronic drum beat.
“Starboy” is the title track off of the album with the same name. The electronics on the track are provided by legendary electronic duo Daft Punk. The music video for this song currently has over two billion views on YouTube. The vocals on this song have a heavy R&B influence, with a poppy drum beat laying the foundation on the track.
Off the same album as “Blinding Lights,” “Save Your Tears” continues the 80s vibe. With bright synths and bubbly electronic piano notes placed perfectly throughout the song, it’s a catchy, singalong song. Since the song’s release, there have been multiple remixes done by other artists, including one by Ariana Grande.
One of the bigger tracks off of the album Starboy, “Die For You” is a dramatic R&B track with a slower tempo than the songs above on this list. Lyrically, The Weeknd sings about the ending of a relationship and struggling with feelings of still loving the person.
Off of his most recent album Dawn FM, “Sacrifice” sees The Weeknd pick up where he left off on the last album, incorporating more synth and bright, cheerful dance beats.
